GVLJazz Underground presents Adam Knight Quintet’s Tribute to Grant Green
Guitarist Adam Knight leads a quintet exploring the hard bop, soul jazz, funk and Latin jazz stylings of guitarist Grant Green. With Keith Davis, Shannon Hoover, and Tim Blackwell.
Grant Green was an underdog of jazz guitar. He might not have been an underdog to fellow jazz musicians… Stanley Turrentine, Hank Mobley, Larry Young, and (repeatedly) Elvin Jones featured him on their recordings.
But due to being overshadowed in his peak years by Wes Montgomery and later by George Benson, and with many of his recordings unissued until years after his death, knowing about Grant Green is a bit like knowing the hip secret handshake. And we’ll give you that chance on June 9 at the Coffee Underground!
